Blog Assignment

What is a blog?
A blog is a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.

How can a blog be used in a classroom?
1. Classroom managment because students are informed frequently of assignments, feedback, grades,etc.

2. Students can use blogs to reflect on their learning experiences throughout the semester.

3. Students can create their own blogs to complete class writing projects.

4. Teachers can communicate with administrators, other teachers, parents, community members, and/or anyone else interested in what students are doing.

5. Teachers can provide examples of classwork, vocabulary activities, or explanations of concepts that their class has been working on.

A teacher could do a variety of lessons with their students on a blog. One lesson could deal with writing in a 4th grade classroom. The teacher could provide a step-by-step, detailed list of things they want their students to write and the format in which they want this to be done in. For example a teacher could post on his or her blog that they want their students to write a one-page paper on an animal of their choice. They must provide three detailed paragraphs on this paper, with each paragraph talking about one important feature their animal has. The students can all turn their papers in by using their own individual blogs, or just responding to their teachers blogs. This will eliminate students coming in with poorly handwritten papers or them just forgetting about the assignment. The students' parents would be able to see the assignment as well and force the student to complete their work.
